“Trains like no other”: last rail stops of the summer, Maputo and La Paz
“Trains like no other” in Bolivia. ALEX BADIN

MONDAY, AUGUST 25 – 9 PM – FRANCE 5

When summer ends... The last two evenings of "Trains unlike any other" each open with a new event: this Monday, August 25 in Mozambique, then Bolivia, closing on the 1st September. The cherry on the cake: the late-night reruns unwittingly reveal the secret to this program's unparalleled success over the past fifteen seasons: nothing has changed. Which, in an era of budget cuts and overhauls at the public broadcasting group, is no small feat.

Like Philippe Gougler, who has embodied the show since the beginning. An anti-adventurer like others are anti-heroes, he advances, bag at arm's length and nose in the wind, ready for any encounter, with a natural benevolence. Thus, on board the first train, which leaves the Art Deco station of Maputo (1.2 million inhabitants), capital of Mozambique, to reach the Gorongosa reserve, the presenter strikes up a conversation with a young man, a traveling manicurist, then with one of his clients, then with his neighbor, and his opposite number... Futile? Only apparently.
